"A perceptive, unsettling psychodrama."
Variety
"One of the more intriguingly unusual, thought-provokingly original and, in the end, intellectually stimulating American independent movies of the year."
Neil Young's Fillm Lounge,2006 Independent Spirit Award; Sundance 2005 Official Selection; Cannes 2005 Directors Fortnight
Official Selection,Once again, Julia Barker arrives late for work at Paradise Bingo, in the strip-mall. Inside her splitting mind, disturbing visions continue to erupt: rippling water, wooden rafters, blinding white glare through cavernous windows of a warehouse-sized room - all menacing and mysterious.
Julia is a frantic breadwinner struggling to raise her daughters; paying the bills, chauffeuring the family, delivering the telephone books; she is the axis to a family of dependants whose needs completely drown out her own personal desires. Through it all, she suffers waves of excruciating migraine headaches.
Her visions begin to intensify until she can no longer ignore these signs. When, through a series of desperate choices, she robs her employer, abandons her family, boards a plane and arrives on the streets of New York City, her pilgrimage just begins.
Recently nominated for the 2006 Independent Spirit Award and a strong hit at the 2005 Cannes and Sundance Film Festivals, 'ROOM' is another highlight of recent, edgy, US independent filmmaking that is experiencing a renaissance not seen since the early 1990s.
